Rafael Ramírez to head new Foresight Centre

Governing Body Fellow Professor Rafael Ramírez has become the inaugural Director of the Oxford-Hyundai Motor Group Foresight Centre.

The Foresight Centre, based at the Saïd Business School, has been established to explore and test methods of foresight research. It will conduct innovative research and facilitate interdisciplinary conversations between government agencies, academia and industry experts to develop long-term insights into future societal trends.

The agreement marks a new partnership between Hyundai Motor Group and Oxford Saïd that was launched at Convocation House at the University of Oxford in July 2024.

Commenting on his appointment, Rafael said,

‘This new partnership provides opportunity to continue the scholarly work on scenario planning, now located in the Saïd Business School, which started at Templeton College.

‘I am particularly excited for the further evolution of work in this area in the fortieth anniversary year of Templeton’s establishment and the 20th anniversary of the Oxford Scenarios Programme, started at Templeton.’

Ramirez RafaelRafael Ramírez is the first ever Professor of Practice named by the University of Oxford and Director of the Oxford Scenarios Programme at the Saїd Business School. He is one of the world’s leading experts on scenario planning, having developed the Oxford Scenarios Planning Approach with colleagues Angela Wilkinson and Kees van der Heijden.

Rafael was Visiting Professor of Scenarios and Corporate Strategy at Shell International from 2000 to 2003, and from 2008 to 2010 Chairman of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Strategic Foresight. He was a full tenured Professor of Management in HEC Paris from 1993 to 2009.
