2024 is a pivotal year for leadership as more than 4 billion people are eligible to vote in elections. 2024 also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the founding of Templeton College, the successor to the Oxford Centre for Management Studies and a crucial site for management and leadership studies in Oxford. To mark both events, this panel will discuss the past and future 40 years of leadership and the role of business in society. Part of the Meeting Minds 2024 programme.

Sue Dopson, Management in Medicine research projectsProfessor Sue Dopson is a Governing Body Fellow of Green Templeton College and a member of the Fellowship Committee and Remuneration Committee. She is Deputy Dean for People and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the Saїd Business School, University of Oxford.

Henrietta Jowitt headshot in light blouse and jacketHenrietta Jowitt (Advanced Management Programme, 1996) is an Associate Fellow and member of the Principal’s Circle at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. Henrietta is an alumna of then-Templeton College and a senior business leader with more than 20 years’ experience in driving growth and transformation. She was Deputy Director General (Commercial) of the Confederation of British Industry from 2016 to 2021.

Maja Korica Profile Pic in white topProfessor Maja Korica (MSc Management Research, 2005; DPhil Management Studies, 2006) holds the title of Full Professor of Strategic Management at IESEG Paris, France. She previously held senior academic positions at Warwick Business School, UK. She served as Junior Dean and supported the historic merger of Templeton and Green Colleges by serving on the first transitional GTC student leadership team. Her academic expertise is on leadership and management in practice, for which she has been recognised by Thinkers50’s Radar List as one of the management thinkers most likely to shape the future of how organisations are led and managed. She frequently comments on LinkedIn on today’s business landscape, with a particular focus on humane management and better organisations for all.

Michael Smets profile pic(Moderator) Professor Michael Smets (MSc, Management Research, 2002; DPhil Management Studies, 2003) is a Senior Research Fellow of Green Templeton College and Professor of Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Michael studies the complexities of organisations facing conflicting institutional pressures. He does so in professional, cultural and educational organisations, using qualitative methods such as video- and team-ethnography.

His role involves strategic planning and fostering the intersection of research and practice, ensuring the college’s continued reputation for academic excellence and its contribution to human welfare and social, economic, and environmental well-being.
