New role for Susan James Relly
Governing Body Fellow Susan James Relly has been appointed as Associate Head (Education) – Social Sciences Division, University of Oxford. Starting in April 2020, Susan will work with current Associate Head, Paul Martin, providing leadership support to the Head of Division in areas related to education. Her responsibilities include strategic leadership for all aspects of Social Sciences educational provision, from admissions and access to teaching, learning and assessment policy.
Susan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education, where she is the Director of the Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE) research centre.
Her research interests are in vocational education and training policy; apprenticeship and work based learning; social mobility and non-graduate occupations; and further education, teaching and learning. Susan has written and spoken widely on these areas and recent publications include Good people in a flawed system: the challenges of mainstreaming excellence in technical education.
Susan completed a B.Ed in her native Queensland, Australia, and read for a M.Sc in Comparative and International Education and a D.Phil in Education at the University of Oxford. Susan taught in secondary schools in Australia and England before starting her academic career.
