Professor Timothy Hoff gives an update on Obamacare in new Management in Medicine workshop
Green Templeton’s Visiting Associate Fellow, Professor Timothy Hoff, drew a large audience on Monday, 14 January for a fascinating talk on the impact of Obamacare, organised by the Management in Medicine initiative.
Tim,ย who is Professor of Management, Healthcare Systems and Health Policy at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University, spoke about developments over the last ten years in American healthcare, following the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.
The seminar explained and analysed how Obamacare has transformed key parts of the United States healthcare system and changed how many Americans think about the role of affordable healthcare in their lives.
Tim summed up his talk by saying: “This lectureย provided a retrospective on the first decade of the US Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare. While it has helped insure millions of Americans, no small feat, the political fallout from such a major piece of social legislation has prevented the law from being expanded upon in key ways, such as reforming the supply side issues in US health care.
“Whether it is one step on the road to a single payer health system or a facilitator of an even more corporately run care delivery system remains to be seen, as the law continues to be challenged on several different levels.”
The lecture was part of the Management in Medicine programme, established by the Fellows of Green Templeton to develop management and leadership skills among clinicians in training and postgraduate students with an interest in healthcare management.
