Alina Ziyun Zeng

Zeng is currently pursuing an MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance at Oxford, building on a strong foundation in environmental studies during her undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Graduated with a major in Urban Forestry and a minor in Landscape and Recreation Planning, Zeng has cultivated a deep passion for sustainability and the vital connection between people and nature. Her academic journey reflects a commitment to revitalizing urban areas through the integration of greenery, trees,and urban forests.
Zeng’s research interests are diverse, spanning from the study of leaf phenology across Europe and North America to exploring human-wildlife interactions in Eastern Africa. This breadth of inquiry underscores her dedication to understanding and enhancing the relationship between natural and urban environments. Prior to joining Oxford, Zeng worked as an environmental educator with various nature schools and NPOs across Canada, where she played a key role in fostering environmental awareness and stewardship among youth groups. Zeng also managed and led volunteers in invasive species removal and habitat restoration, further contributing to the preservation of local ecosystems.
Through her work, Zeng aspires to deepen and strengthen the connection between people and nature, ensuring that future urban developments are both sustainable and harmonious with the natural world.
