MSc International Health and Tropical Medicine
2021

Francesca MaraschinI am a proud South African doctor who studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. For the past four years, I have been working in public hospitals in Johannesburg. I have spent a significant portion of this time working in paediatrics and paediatric surgery. My most recent position was working as a medical officer in ICU at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, the fourth largest hospital in the world.

I am passionate about children and through my volunteer work and professional experience as a doctor I have come to recognise the need for a system that supports the holistic wellbeing of this vulnerable group. I have the skills to treat patients medically but lack the breadth of knowledge in foundations of public health to challenge improve the structural shortfalls of the South African healthcare system. This is why I am I have chosen to study the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine.
