Dr Pedro Melo was appointed Teaching Associate in Women’s and Reproductive Health at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford in December 2023. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant Gynaecologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Pedro studied Medicine in Lisbon and Paris before moving to Oxford for postgraduate training. He completed a master’s in Clinical Embryology with distinction at the University of Oxford, followed by a PhD in Reproductive Medicine under the supervision of Professor Arri Coomarasamy at the University of Birmingham. He subsequently returned to Oxford to complete subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine and an NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureship, working closely with the Granne and Becker research groups at the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health.

His research focuses on evidence synthesis and clinical trials in infertility and miscarriage. He is the national clinical coordinator for the NIHR-funded LOCI randomised trial, which compares letrozole versus clomifene, with or without metformin, for the treatment of anovulatory infertility in people with polycystic ovary syndrome.

His work on the role of progesterone in the luteal phase earned him the British Fertility Society Young Clinician Award in 2022, and in 2023 he was awarded the Florence and William Blair Bell Fellowship by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
