Radcliffe 250: When future and past meet

There are moments in the life of a college when its future and its past meet. This is one of them.

The Radcliffe 250 is a circle of 250 individuals. Each member shares a connection to Oxford or Green Templeton, and a considered interest in its heritage and future.

Only 2.5% of England’s listed buildings are designated Grade I. These are recognised as being of exceptional architectural or historic interest.

The restoration of the Radcliffe Observatory is not simply about preservation, but about ensuring that it continues to play a meaningful role in the College and the wider Oxford community for generations to come.

What it means to be part of the Radcliffe 250

Membership of the Radcliffe 250 is secured for seven years through a one-off donation of £2,500. Members will be acknowledged through an installation in the new entrance, with a plaque located in the curved corridor of the east wing for the duration of membership.

Subject to approval, the installation will take a form inspired by star constellations, as suggested in the mock-up below.

Members will also enjoy:

  • An invitation to an annual champagne reception for members and a guest at the Radcliffe Observatory, hosted by the Principal
  • Invitations to a small number of private gatherings within the Observatory and college
  • Discounts on venue and catering hire, subject to availability
  • Access to selected moments linked to the restoration and reanimation of the building, not otherwise accessible

The exclusivity of the group, and of the occasions it convenes, allows for a more personal connection to the Observatory and to those shaping its future.

We would be delighted for you to be part of this moment.
