Joan and Richard Doll Clinical Tutorial Fellow Letter
Thank you for expressing an interest in the position of Joan & Richard Doll Clinical Tutorial. The College is proud of its level of support and teaching for clinical medical students and this teaching post is a key part of that support.
Please find attached a copy of the Job Description and Person Specification. We are seeking one Doll Fellow to commence in August 2026; to predominantly coordinate and deliver surgical teaching and our Academic matching scheme. It is expected the appointee will partake in all aspects of the teaching programme curriculum as required.
Appointments are made for a 3-year period initially. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory 6-month probationary period. Doll Fellowships may be renewed annually thereafter according to the needs of the Teaching Programme.
Applications should be made by sending a letter (of no more than 500 words) and Curriculum Vitae to the Human Resources Manager at hr@gtc.ox.ac.uk along with three references (one of which must be from someone you have taught). References will be considered as part of the shortlisting process and so must be submitted by the closing date (17:00 on Sunday 28 June 2026).
Candidates will be notified whether they have been shortlisted as soon as possible thereafter. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 21 July from 17:00 to 18:30, followed by a teaching demonstration from 19:00 to 20:30 (details below). Applicants may wish to ensure their availability for the interview date before applying, as it will not be possible to change these.
The teaching demonstration is an important part of the selection process and full details will be sent closer to the interview dates. In summary, shortlisted candidates will be expected to teach small groups of students (5–10 students per group) and the students themselves will then mark the sessions. The timing and format may alter depending on the number of candidates shortlisted but we expect your demonstration to last 20 minutes. The topic will be entirely up to the candidate but needs to be relevant to the core surgical final year syllabus, the students will be in their first month of final year.
If you have any questions about the nature of the role you would be welcome to contact either of the Senior Doll Fellows:
We hope you are still keen to apply and look forward to your application.
