Care Initiative background papers
Green Templeton published two reports in 2025 as part of its planning for its future of the Care Initiative. The Care Initiative hired Dr Caitlin Murnane as a postdoctoral researcher to conduct background research to inform the planning process using a mixed methods approach, exploring sociological, political and economic issues impacting care globally and nationally.
In ‘Long-term care challenges in the 2020s’ January 2025, Dr Caitlin Murnane reviews the literature on the key challenges and issues facing social care, discussing in particular the application of AI and other technologies, workforce shortages in care, informal care and issues facing the Global South. In ‘An overview of research, organisations and activities in long-term care’ February 2025, Dr Murnane and Care Initiative Founder Professor Mary Daly identify and discuss possible areas on which the Initiative might focus its future efforts.
In 2018/19, the Care Initiative undertook a literature review looking at long-term care in a global context leading to a report by researcher Christina Petsoulas called ‘Thinking about long-term care in a global context – a literature review’.
