Bio
Damian was an undergraduate at Cambridge and then a clinical medic in Oxford at Green College 1986-9. He trained in the UK and USA, specialising in trauma and hip surgery. He developed a research career through an MPhil in Epidemiology and his first consultant post in 1999 was back in Oxford as the Reader at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
Damian has been the Professor of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Warwick since 2002, and worked to set up the Medical School and build a new University Hospital. His research is large scale RCTs of surgery, and his main clinical interest is hip surgery in young and active people. He is internationally recognized for his innovations in hip arthroscopy and hip preserving surgery. Damian is a Colonel in the Army Reserve, and has been fortunate to command both an infantry battalion and a field hospital. He is married with four daughters, the eldest of whom is a medical student.
