Island (2018) film screening
Medical Anthropology Film and Discussion Group
Tuesday 26 January 2021 15:30 to 17:00Location: |
Virtual Event |
The GTC Medical Anthropology Film and Discussion Group explores the extent to which film can complement, enrich and further the study of medical anthropology themes, topics and methods. After watching selected clips, we discuss a film’s content and approach, and interrogate its capacity to support the analysis of issues relating to illness, crisis, health and wellbeing.
This term’s focus is the theme of ‘death and dying’.
In this meeting, the group will discuss Steven Eastwood’s 2018 film Island. On the Island of Wight, four individuals experience the end of life. Illness progresses and relationships shift. We witness rarely seen and intensely private moments.
The screening will last 40 minutes followed by discussion. This film can be viewed online by participants up to one day after the event.
Please contact paola.esposito@anthro.ox.ac.uk and nick.bunnin@chinese.ox.ac.uk for further information or if you require help accessing the event.
Type: Film ScreeningsThe college hosted some very exciting guests last week! @gtc_gcr invited some Alpacas (and a Llama!) to come in for a student wellness event. They were indeed a welcome distraction for all!
A huge congratulations to everyone from @greentempletonboatclub who took part in Summer Eights 2026.
The club fielded an impressive five crews across four days of racing on the Isis, demonstrating commitment, teamwork and determination in one of Oxford`s most iconic rowing events.
