Congratulations Mary Daly

Emerita Fellow Mary Daly was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Social Sciences (Doctor scientiarum socialium honoris causa) by Roskilde University, Denmark on Friday 18 September 2026.

The citation highlighted her ‘outstanding and internationally recognised scholarship in the fields of care, family policy and welfare state research, as well as her substantial contributions to the development of key areas within contemporary social policy.

‘Her research has played a pivotal role in establishing care as a central analytical perspective within welfare state research and in advancing our understanding of the relationships between the state, the family and the market in the organisation of care.’

Professor Mary Daly is an Emerita Fellow, Green Templeton College and Professor Emerita of Sociology and Social Policy, Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford. She is founder of the Care Initiative at college.
