Finding COVID-19 treatments, consumer behaviour among topics at Research Talks Symposium

Finding effective treatments for COVID-19 and consumer behaviour in the marketing domain were among the diverse topics addressed at the latest Green Templeton College Research Talks Mini-Symposium.

The talks, organised by Visiting Research Fellow Lindy Castell, took place via Zoom on Friday 2 October and featured six college fellows discussing their research.

Each of the talks was introduced by Green Templeton College Principal Sir Michael Dixon.

Talk 1: From carbon footprints to brainprints: changing role of universities in addressing climate change

This talk was given by Associate Fellow Geoff Lye, who has taken a lead role in Green Templeton’s response to the Climate Emergency. His other roles include Board Trustee of the South East Asia Rainforest Research Partnership.

Talk 2: What’s happening to our media? What you need to know

The second talk was delivered by Senior Research Fellow Professor Rasmus Kleis Nielsen, Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and Professor of Political Communication at the University of Oxford.

Talk 3: Minority influence on experts: influencing those who influence us in marketing

Research Fellow Dr Cammy Crolic gave the third talk. She is Associate Professor at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and her research focuses on consumer behaviour.

Talk 4: The RECOVERY trial: finding effective treatments for COVID-19

This talk was given by Senior Research Fellow Professor Martin Landray, co-leader of the RECOVERY trial. He is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Deputy Director of the Big Data Institute at Nuffield Department of Population Health.

Talk 5: Understanding inflammation in Soft Tissue Joint Disease: from horses to humans

This talk was given by Research Fellow Professor Stephanie Dakin. She is Associate Professor Musculoskeletal Sciences at NDORMS and a Versus Arthritis Career Development Fellow. She is a veterinarian with particular focus on equine musculoskeletal injuries.

Talk 6: Measuring up to Motor Neurone Disease

The final talk of the day was delivered by Senior Research Fellow Professor Martin Turner, a consultant neurologist and Professor of Clinical Neurology and Neuroscience at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences.
