New Professors

Fellows Lisa Hinton and Janey Messina have been recognised in the 2026 Recognition of Distinction Exercise. This honour confers on them the title of full Professor at the University of Oxford.

Lisa Hinton is Professor of Applied Social Health Sciences in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. Her research focuses on using patient and staff experiences to improve healthcare, with a current focus on maternity care (antenatal and postnatal) and equity.

Reflecting on her recognition, Lisa said:

‘I’m greatly honoured to have been conferred the title of Professor of Applied Social Health Sciences. No research journey is a solo endeavour, and I am immensely grateful for the support and encouragement I have had along the way from family, colleagues and students.

‘My long-standing association with Green Templeton College and its fellows has been a rich and inspiring part of the journey and I am excited for the next chapter.’

Janey Messina is Professor of Global Health Geography. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of geography, epidemiology, and public health, with a particular focus on understanding the spatial dynamics of infectious diseases. Janey’s teaching is focussed on health and medical geography, quantitative methods, and geographic data science.
