Nominations open for the Nautilus Awards 2026
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Nautilus Awards, celebrating current Green Templeton students who have made outstanding contributions to the college community. Up to ten students will be named Nautilus honourees for the academic year 2025-26.
In light of student feedback provided in 2025, the criteria and process for these awards have been revised in time for the 2026 nomination window.
Process
Any member of the Green Templeton community, including fellows, associate fellows, students, alumni and staff, can make nominations for Nautilus Awards using the short form below. You can nominate as many students as you wish, using separate forms. Nominations will be kept anonymous.
The closing date for nominations is Monday 18 May 2026 at 12:00
A panel chaired by the Senior Tutor and including representatives of student bodies, staff, and at least one fellow will select from the nominations up to ten student honourees. Each honouree will receive £100 and a trophy. These will be presented at the college’s Spotlight event on Thursday 25 June. Honourees will also be invited to attend a college formal dinner soon after Spotlight, and their names will be added to a board displayed in the Stables.
Criteria
Nautilus Awards honour the contributions and achievements of Green Templeton students as they have made the college a better place: a happier, more sustainable and more inclusive community, a livelier social environment, a space for academic excellence and sporting success. Typically, nominations will outline a student’s contribution to college as it relates to social, academic or sporting domains, but these are not always exclusive. Contributions to be celebrated could include, for example:
- Organising or helping to organise social events and activities at Green Templeton
- Leadership of, or other outstanding contributions to, college sports teams, clubs, or activities
- Leadership of, or other outstanding contributions to, academic or career events and activities which benefit the wider intellectual community of the college
- Volunteering efforts and expertise to the college’s benefit via initiatives for sustainability, fundraising, cultural awareness etc
- Formal and informal actions to support other Green Templeton students’ wellbeing and sense of belonging.
The panel’s decisions will be based on information received in nominations so nominators are encouraged to outline as full a range as possible of the nominee’s contributions to college, over their whole time at Green Templeton to date.
Eligibility
Any student enrolled at Green Templeton during the 2025-26 academic year is eligible for a Nautilus Award. This includes GCR representatives and officers or students employed by college (such as Junior Deans): these nominees will be assessed on the extent to which they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their contributions to the college.
Nominations may mention as background a nominee’s individual career, academic or sporting achievements outside of the college context, but these will not normally be considered by the panel when selecting honourees.
In exceptional circumstances, a student who has previously received a Nautilus Award may be considered again, based exclusively on new achievements and contributions since the previous award.
Self-nominations and reciprocal nominations are permitted but this background will be taken into account by the panel when selecting honourees. Any member of the Nautilus Awards Committee may be awarded a Nautilus Award, but they will be required to leave the room during deliberations over their nomination.
