Philanthropy is theme of Green Templeton Lectures
The 2023 annual flagship lectures series will be convened by Principal Sir Michael Dixon and Associate Fellow Caroline Greenhalgh. They will explore whether philanthropy has a problem with evidence under the umbrella ‘Seeing is believing’.
Three distinguished speakers will bring international perspectives to discussions on three aspects around this theme. US-based Dr Josh Yates will bring over two decades of academic research, community development practice, and social entrepreneurship to an opening lecture on the challenges and possibilities of venture philanthropy.
Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen will deliver the second lecture drawing on her experience working at the head of both charities and foundations and as UN Assistant Secretary General. Rory Stewart will conclude the series drawing on his experiences including as UK Secretary of State for International Development, and most recently as President of GiveDirectly – a nonprofit that lets donors send money directly to the world’s poorest households.
The series will be an opportunity to utilise Green Templeton’s place at the intersection of research-led and practice-oriented thinking to provide a unique place to incubate ideas in this area of emerging academic inquiry.
The lectures will be held in hybrid format taking place both in person and being streamed online for a global audience.
