Professor Robert Arnott is awarded Honorary Membership of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland
Associate Fellow Professor Robert (Bob) Arnott has been awarded Honorary Membership of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), its highest honour.
Professor Arnott will receive the award at its Annual Meeting in Harrogate on 4 July in recognition of his contribution to the association over several years.
Professor Arnott served as a Trustee of the ACPGBI’s Bowel Disease Research Foundation for nearly two decades and in more recent years as its Secretary and helped found the new charity, Bowel Research UK.
A sufferer of Crohn’s Disease for well over fifty years and having had bowel surgery on innumerable occasions and amongst other roles, he is Chairman of the Patient Liaison Group of the ACPGBI and a member of its Council, and is also patient representative with NHS Digital’s National Bowel Cancer Audit (NBOCA). The honour is partly to recognise the role that patients are now playing at the heart of the work and research of the Association, much of it at his instigation.
He said: ‘It is a great privilege to be so honoured by the ACPGBI where, in my work with them, I am able to give back to a profession that has given me so much.’
The ACPGBI is an organisation of over one thousand colorectal surgeons, together with nurses and health professionals, working together to advance the knowledge and treatment of bowel diseases in Great Britain and Ireland.
Last week, the college welcomed guests for a special afternoon marking the launch of the Pirie Society.
The event celebrated the college’s new legacy society and recognised those who are considering, or have chosen, to leave a gift in their will to the college.
Their generosity will help shape the future of the college for generations to come.
