Emeritus Fellow Professor Robert Walker gave a keynote address at an international conference, recently convened at Longnan, Gansu Province China, with the aim stimulating cross-national partnerships to promote poverty reduction under the rubric of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Walker reported on findings of a six-country study of poverty undertaken with ATD Fourth World, an international non-government organisation based in Paris, and initially funded by Oxford’s John Fell Fund. He also referred to a follow-up study conducted in China which similarly suggests that poverty is best defined with respect to nine separate dimensions repeatedly identified by people experiencing poverty, academics and people working to combat poverty.
A 14-minute video interview with Professor Walker, recorded at the conference, is available, alongside a written transcript of the interview.
