Student exchange with St Edmund’s College, University of Cambridge

The Green Templeton Graduate Common Room Committee had the pleasure of reviving a long-standing tradition of an exchange with our sister college in Cambridge, St Edmund’s College this spring thanks to an individual donor.

GCR External Entertainment Officer Vinohar Kumar (MBA, 2021) reports:

Many students had never visited Cambridge due to the combination of busy course calendars and the pandemic. This initiative by the GCRs of both colleges was greatly appreciated by all the students who attended.

50 students from Cambridge visited Green Templeton College on Saturday 30 April 2022. They were treated to a brunch at the Stables Bar followed by a tour of Oxford led by students of the college. The tour was personalized and provided an insiders’ view of each tour guide’s favourite part of the city. The day concluded with a wine and cheese jazz night with live entertainment by Music and Arts Representative Jordan Gorenberg and the Gorenberg quintet.

The Cambridge leg of the event was held on Saturday 14 May 2022 with 53 Green Templeton students travelling by bus to St Edmund’s College. This opportunity would not have been possible without the generous donation that allowed us to hire a coach to travel to Cambridge. We reached Cambridge just before noon and were welcomed with an excellent brunch on the St Edmund’s College lawns followed by a walking tour of Cambridge (led by students of the college) and a punting trip down the beautiful river Cam. The day ended with a karaoke night at the college bar in what was an amazing showcase of talent and a chance to network.

The exchange provided an unprecedented opportunity for students of both colleges to meet and learn more about one another’s courses, explore Oxford and Cambridge but more importantly build new bonds that will last a lifetime.
