Successes for Musician-in-Residence
Green Templeton’s Maki Sekiya performed her debut solo recital at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London on Sunday 30 January.
The concert that confirmed Maki’s status as a world class pianist was completely sold out. The final flourishes of Chopin’s Op.25 Etudes brought a rapt audience to their feet and the ovation lasted for some time before Maki returned to the piano to perform an encore.
Maki began her Wigmore Hall concert with Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No.4 (Op.30) which contrasted beautifully with music by Somei Satoh, a contemporary composer with whom Maki has collaborated, before Debussy’s Fêtes and then the Chopin finale.
Earlier in January, Maki had appeared on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune programme, playing live music (wonderful performances of Chopin, Pavlenko and Beethoven) and being interviewed by Sean Rafferty.
Congratulations to Musician-in-Residence Maki Sekiya on these successes and we look forward to welcoming her back to perform in college in the spring.
