Policy on bringing children to formal dinners

Formal dinners are primarily adult-focused events and are a great opportunity for students, fellows and guests to engage in conversations. The college Dining Hall also has issues with acoustics making it hard to hear others.

Therefore, to protect the enjoyment of all diners, we discourage bringing children under the age of 16. However, we understand on rare occasions students and fellows need to bring their child(ren) with them to dinner. The staff team will do its best to accommodate children on these occasions. Like any other guest, they must be booked into dinner, and in their case together with a responsible adult who must be highlighted when booking places on the meal booking system.

Any children in attendance will need to be able to sit through a 3-course dinner and eat the same as other guests. Parents or the responsible adult must take full responsibility for the child(ren) to avoid any disruption to other diners, this includes not allowing children to move around the Dining Hall, especially while service is in progress.

The college holds specific Family Friendly dinners where diners are encouraged to bring children and the menus and arrangements are specially designed for families. Children are very welcome for lunch in the Dining Hall and the college provides other child-friendly events throughout the year.

If you have any questions please email the Food and Beverage Manager before attending.
