Full fees and annual stipend at minimum Research Council UK rate (£21,805 in 2026/27) for the duration of fee liability (normally three years full-time). College continuation charges will be covered by the scholarship in Year 4. Should further years of study be required by the scholar beyond Year 4, these will not be covered by the scholarship and the student will need to self-fund any University or College continuation charges that are due after Year 4.

If an international scholar holding overseas fee-status is selected by the Department, upon enrolment an additional bursary of £1,800 will be provided. This bursary for overseas scholars is intended to provide a financial contribution towards some (but not all) mandatory pre-enrolment expenses, including visa and NHS surcharges. The value of this bursary will be reviewed in time for the appointment of each new scholar.

A £5,000 bursary (max) in Year 4 to support writing up, if required. A decision will be taken by the Senior Tutor, in discussion with the student and their university department, as to what level of writing up bursary will be awarded. The value of this bursary will be reviewed in time for the appointment of each new scholar.

The Department of Primary Health Care Sciences will provide:

• A top-up for three years (full time) to the annual stipend provided by the college, bringing it in line with the higher UKRI rate (defined as ‘with London weighting’, £23,805 in 2026/27) for postgraduate research students;
• Access to £5,000 funding for research and training.
• Payment if the student is sick, in line with the departments current sick pay policy.

Eligibility

New students accepted for the DPhil Translational Health Sciences programme in 2027. The scholarship is open to all graduate applicants regardless of nationality. Preference will be given to research examining the human, organisational, and societal factors influencing the adoption, dissemination, and integration of research discoveries into routine practice, with the aim of improving the effectiveness, equity, and impact of healthcare delivery. The scholarship is intended to support a DPhil in Translational Health Sciences in the first instance, if this is not possible preference will be given to students whose research is conducted within, or is closely aligned with, the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and related translational health DPhil programmes.

About this scholarship

The scholarship has been established through a generous endowed gift from Oxford PharmaGenesis to Green Templeton College, creating a permanent fund to support DPhil students undertaking outstanding postgraduate research in the field of translational health.
