IT Support

The IT department is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:30, and can be found on the ground floor of the Observers House admin corridor. Our IT staff aim to provide an IT environment that is secure and flexible to meet your on-going needs. If you require assistance, first submit a ticket via email to it-support@gtc.ox.ac.uk. A face-to-face meeting can be arranged following this initial contact. To save yourself time, always contact the college IT team if you are experiencing IT issues.

WiFi

Eduroam

At GTC, we use the Eduroam WiFi network for internet access. Eduroam is a global WiFi network used by educational institutions.

To use Eduroam on campus and across the university, begin by activating your Remote Access account and create a password (this is different from your SSO password). We suggest doing this before your arrival at GTC if you can. This can be done after you have received and activated your Single Sign-On (SSO) account information.

Log in with your SSO account then Select the ‘Request a Remote Access Account’ link, and then create your password.

For detailed instructions and a step-by-step guide on setting up your Remote Access account, please visit the university’s Connect to the Internet page.

Note that using your Eduroam account for illegal downloads or sharing it will get your account suspended and incur fines.

Although your Remote Access Account and SSO usernames might seem similar, they are different; they have unique username formats, passwords, and are managed separately.

Family WiFi

For your visitors needing Wi-Fi, please use the family network; this lets you create and share a password with them. You can connect your personal devices, such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, and IoT devices, to our Family Wi-Fi. You can find a how-to guide for creating a family Wi-Fi password on the IT page of the college intranet (your student SSO is required to view the Intranet

Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)

We strongly recommend setting up multiple MFA methods when you activate your SSO. This is to avoid access issues to your university resources (eg your email account, Canvas, etc.) if you lose or change your phone.

If you need to reset your MFA credentials, please raise a ticket via the helpdesk (it-support@gtc.ox.ac.uk). Additional identification will be required for security. Please note that multi-factor authentication resets are only available from 9am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Printing

Upon enrolment, your college printing account will include a one-off £10 credit for printing and copying. Once you have used up your credit, additional printing charges will be automatically added to your battels account; no action is required from you.

Three MFP printers with scanning facilities are available across campus—two on the main campus and one in student accommodation. You can find them on the ground floor of the admin building, the Stables Gallery and Rewley Abbey Court common room (RAC).

To print from any college PC or personal device, choose ‘College Printer on gtc-ps’, tap your Bod card, and select your print job.

Cloud Printing

To use your own device to print, set up Cloud Printing. Please note you will need to visit the college IT office during office hours above to set up a new password for this. Before going to the IT office, please submit a helpdesk ticket to schedule a password appointment.

College PCs

You can find a desktop PC on the ground floor in the Admin Building. To sign in, enter your SSO username (the 8 characters before the “@” symbol) and your password (16 characters or more). For instance, if your email address is grte1234@ox.ac.uk, only enter grte1234.

Monitors

The main college library also provides monitors for connecting to your laptop. They all have the option to connect via USB-C or HDMI. These monitors are for in-library use only and cannot be moved or borrowed. Please be mindful of others and do not use the monitors for excessive periods of time, especially during busy periods.

Laptop Repairs

We do not provide a laptop repair service. We will, however, be happy to have a look at your device and offer advice. There are several shops around Oxford where you can take your device for a repair. We cannot make specific recommendations, but a quick Google search should show you several reputable repair shops. If your device is an Apple product, the approved repair centre is Western Computers. Otherwise, the closest Apple Stores are in Reading and Milton Keynes.

Temporary Laptop Loan

We provide a temporary laptop loan service. These are available on a first come, first serve basis for a maximum of three weeks. Remember to save all your work to OneDrive if you’ve borrowed a laptop. All local data will be deleted when it’s returned to IT.
