Anoop Sumal Profile Pic Outside, In Jacket And TieI am a speciality trainee in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the West Midlands.

I completed my pre-clinical and clinical medical studies at the University of Cambridge. I then went on to complete a surgically-themed Foundation Priority Programme and a 12-month post as a Clinical Fellow in Medical Education and Cardiothoracic Surgery, both of which were based in the North West Deanery. Alongside these clinical and educational duties, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Sciences at the Distinction level at the University of Edinburgh and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical and Health Education at the University of Manchester. Additionally, I am a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS), having passed the membership exams on my first attempt.

I am interested in a career in academic surgery and sub-specialising in minimally invasive techniques. I have published in several medical journals relevant to cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, vascular surgery, clinical anatomy and emergency medicine. I have been awarded prizes in medical school for exam results and national elective grants, and in my postgraduate years for surgical skills and teaching. Additionally, I have been a part of many student committees, such as the President of the Cambridge University Cardiothoracic Surgery and Anatomy Societies, where we organised Wet Lab surgical courses, international conferences and academic and revision lectures. I was also a committee member of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion division (2022-25).

I pride myself in having a good work-ethic, being a team player and striving for a good work-life balance, between clinical and educational responsibilities with my personal hobbies.
