2018

I am a defence counsel and have been working for several years in the private sector and as a member of the in-house staff of the Israeli Public Defence Office. I have represented clients in criminal and administrative proceedings in all legal instances, instructed external counsels on behalf of the Public Defence Office and have co-managed the Office’s representation of incarcerated juveniles. I published on punitive solitary confinement of juveniles prisoners in Israel and have a forthcoming publication on an extensive study into the work of parole boards in Israel. I have also completed an MA degree in Gender Studies from the University of Tel Aviv and have recently graduated from the MSc programme in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Oxford’s Centre for Criminology at the Faculty of Law.

Throughout my years in practice, I have focused on Palestinian prisoners, adults and juveniles, who are held in Israeli prisons. Incarcerated Palestinians are also the subject of my DPhil research, which studies punishment in times of conflict and focuses on Israel-Palestine as its case study. The project is funded by the Green Templeton College DPhil Scholarship and is supervised by Professor Lucia Zedner from the Faculty of Law and Professor Mary Bosworth, the director of the Centre for Criminology.
