About HEXI

Sustainable healthcare in the 21st century has been dependent on patients and the public being actively engaged in maintaining their health, in managing the illnesses that affect them, and in helping design and deliver healthcare systems.

For this to be possible, patients and public have to be well informed, professionals need to work with them as partners, and healthcare systems need to be responsive to what patients and the public need and say.

Care has to be genuinely person-centred – responsive to the needs, preferences and values of patients and their families.

HEXI researched and worked with partner organisations aiming to further understanding and develop practice across person-centred care:

  • involving patients and the public in the structures and processes of health and social care delivery, research and innovation, for example through work with the Oxford AHSN
  • supporting engagement of patients and carers in individual care through developing for shared decision making, for example
  • measuring and acting on their experience of care.
