About the speakers
Dr SanYuMay Tun is a Research Fellow of Green Templeton College and the Lead for Education for Sustainable Healthcare in the Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford. She has a background in medicine as a former general practitioner, and also in environmental science and policy, and medical education.
SanYuMay is interested in best practice for implementing education in planetary health and sustainable healthcare – through faculty development, in undergraduate and postgraduate training, and in continuing professional practice.
Dr Adam Briggs is Deputy Director of Public Health at Oxfordshire County Council and a Senior Policy Fellow at the Health Foundation where he leads on public health policy. Between November 2020 and September 2022, his Health Foundation time was used to support the pandemic initially as a Public Health Strategy Advisor to the Chief Medical Advisor at NHS Test and Trace, and then as interim Deputy Director for Health Equity, Strategy and Partnerships at the UK Health Security Agency.
Adam studied medicine at Oxford and his DPhil is in Public Health Economics. As a public health specialty registrar and academic clinical fellow, he had various roles covering policy, practice, teaching, and research. In particular, he worked on modelling the health impact of public health policies, such as soft drink taxes. In 2017/18 he was a Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice in the United States, based at The Dartmouth Institute. His research focused on how accountable care organisations and place-based health systems meet patients’ preventive care needs. He is an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at Warwick University and a Honorary Consultant at the UK Health Security Agency. He is currently studying for an Exec MBA at Warwick Business School.
Dr Emma Ladds is a current GP partner practising in West Oxfordshire. She is also a Wellcome Trust DPhil student at the University of Oxford studying the patient-GP relationship in modern general practice.
Having initially pursued a surgical career and then completed a Master’s in Public Health at Harvard, Emma discovered a love for narrative medicine and medical humanities, which underpin the core values of general practice. She writes regularly for The New European about modern general practice and the importance of holistic health and enjoys passing on these interests to medical students. She is a keen medical educator, mentoring students on practical placements and lecturing for the University of Oxford about the importance of continuity of care. In her spare time she enjoys the thinking space offered by long trail runs in the hills.
