Christmas closure 2022

The college will close for Christmas from Friday 23 December at 16:00 to Tuesday 3 January at 6:00. The only exception to this, is that the Library and Stables Gallery will remain open for Green Templeton Members only. Full details below.

Lodge

The Lodge will not be open between Friday 23 December and Tuesday 3 January, however, Oxford Security Services will be monitoring college properties during this period and covering any emergency issues. If you require emergency support, please call the Lodge number: +44 (0)1865 274770.

Catering

Catering services will stop after lunch on Thursday 15 December and will restart on Tuesday 3 January 2023 for lunch.

Coffee machine in the Stables Gallery

The coffee machine will remain in service during the Christmas vacation.

Cleaning

Cleaners will finish for the Christmas break on Friday 23 December and there will be no accommodation and office cleaning until Tuesday 3 January 2023. Those in residence are asked to take their waste and recycling to the outside bins and to keep their space clean and tidy. There will be one clean of the Library and Stables Gallery on Wednesday 28 December. This will include cleaning the toilets in the basement of the Walton Building and ensuring waste and recycling is removed. The Stables Gallery will also be checked.

Accommodation Office

The Accommodation Office will close on Friday 16 December and reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2023.

Residents

If you are going away for a few days or longer over the Christmas vacation, please ensure you double check:

• Ensure all windows and doors are closed at your property
• Please read the instructions from the accommodation office on turning down your heating and switching off all electrical items before you go

Energy costs have tripled during 2022 and we all need to make every effort not to waste energy, as we are trying to limit the financial impact on college and students. This is an easy way to ensure you do not waste energy when not in your room or building for a prolonged period.

Building maintenance support in college accommodation

Only emergencies will be dealt with during the closure period from Friday 23 December at 16:00 to Tuesday 3 January at 6:00. If you need to report an urgent maintenance issue, please call the Lodge on 01865 274470, the call will be transferred to our out of hours security company, who will assess the situation. Urgent/serious issues are: water ingress into a building, burst pipes, no electrics, no heating or the smell of gas.

Library

The Library will remain open for Green Templeton students only. Regular checks will be undertaken by library invigilators and security staff. Please don’t embarrass anyone by allowing non-GTC students into the library during this period. The Library Office will close on Friday 23 December at 15:30. The Click and Collect book service will be suspended from Saturday 24 December to Monday 2 January inclusive, but you will still be able to borrow books using the self-issue PC outside the Library Office.

Printers

The printer in the Admin Building will not be accessible.

Gym

The gym will close on Friday 23 December at 15:30 and reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2023 at 6:00.

Squash court

The squash court will close on Friday 23 December at 15:30 and reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2023 at 6:00

Social spaces

The only area that will remain open during the college closure is the Stables Gallery. This space can be used by residents who live on the main site or students working in the library.

Gardens

Gardens will remain open for residents based on the main site, including residents staying in Oxford who live on Observatory Street. Access via the main gate at the front of college only.

IT Support

IT support will not be available, except for emergency issues. Call the Lodge telephone number should you need urgent assistance. Routine support is NOT available during the closure period.

College nurse

The college nurse finishes for Christmas on Sunday 18 December and will resume her surgery based at Somerville College on Tuesday 3 January 2023. A guide to welfare support over the Christmas vacation from the university is now available. Many mental health services are open all year round, while others will have different opening hours or be closed on some days. There are many welfare resources available for you, all of them free and confidential. The Junior Deans will also be working on a shift pattern over the Christmas vacation.
