Dr Hussam Rostom receives Project Award in 2019 Teaching Excellence Awards

A project by Green Templeton Doll Teaching Fellow Dr Hussam Rostom that enhances students’ education has been awarded funding at The 2019 Teaching Excellence Awards, in a ceremony at Merton College on Wednesday 23 October. The ceremony was hosted by the Head of the Medical Sciences Division, Professor Gavin Screaton, the Deputy Head of Division (Education), Professor David Vaux, and the Head of Education Policy and Planning, Jane Dale.
The project ‘App-based adjuncts to support learning by undergraduate medical students and work experience students’, will develop apps to support student learning, making it more interactive and allowing students to access resources outside of timetabled teaching and check their understanding. One app will be for use by medical students taking the Laboratory Medicine course, and the other will be targeted at work experience A-level students.
The Teaching Excellence Awards scheme recognises and rewards excellence in teaching, supervision, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment. Project Awards provide financial support to individuals and teams wishing to undertake a discrete project to enhance students’ education and to address other educational priorities.
The Teaching Excellence Awards scheme has been in place since 2006, recognising and rewarding excellence in teaching, supervision, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment. They formally acknowledge significant educational achievements, reward individuals who have exceeded expectations in carrying out their duties, and support the aspirations of those who wish to innovate and enhance our educational provision.
Congratulations to Dr Rostom for this award!
