Management in Medicine Programme shortlisted for VC Award
Green Templeton’s long-running Management in Medicine Programme has been shortlisted for the Empowering People Award in the University of Oxford’s Vice-Chancellor’s Awards 2026.
The awards celebrate outstanding contributions across the collegiate university. This year, nearly 170 entries were submitted across 13 categories, with more than 1,000 individuals included in nominations. The programme will feature in the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Showcase at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities on Tuesday 2 June.
The Management in Medicine Programme is shortlisted in the Empowering People Award category, which recognises colleagues who have made an outstanding contribution to developing others. The university’s shortlist describes the programme as ‘empowering medical students and healthcare professionals to develop their management and leadership potential’.
Based at college, the programme supports those working in and around healthcare to build the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a complex healthcare system. It offers workshops, seminars and a shadowing programme for participants interested in leadership, management and the practical challenges facing health and care organisations. Attendance at single or multiple events is open to college members and others interested. The programme is accredited by the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
The shortlisting recognises the programme’s contribution to professional development in medicine and healthcare, and its role in bringing together students, clinicians, managers, academics and practitioners to explore how leadership and management can improve healthcare practice.
Management in Medicine Programme Lead Dr Nicholas Hicks said,
‘I and the team are delighted that the Management in Medicine Programme has been shortlisted for the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards. The programme was created to help medical students and healthcare professionals understand the systems in which they work, and to develop the confidence and skills to lead constructive change.
‘This recognition reflects the commitment of everyone who contributes to the programme, including our speakers, participants and colleagues across Green Templeton and the wider university.’
The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Showcase is open to all. It will give shortlisted nominees the opportunity to demonstrate and discuss their work, while enabling visitors to learn more about projects and initiatives making an impact across Oxford and beyond.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey said the nominations for the 2026 awards demonstrate ‘the exceptional commitment of our colleagues across the collegiate university and the impact they make in advancing our academic mission’.
The winners and highly commended nominees will be announced at the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards ceremony on Thursday 4 June.
