Congratulations Paul Corris
Associate Fellow Professor Paul Corris has been awarded the European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Lifetime Achievement Award for 2026.
Paul Corris is Emeritus Professor of Thoracic Medicine and a graduate of University College and Westminster Medical School London.
He is recognised for the significant role he undertook developing clinical lung transplantation globally and establishing the UK National Service for patients with Pulmonary Hypertension, via his clinical and research expertise. He was responsible for developing the academic centre for Respiratory Medicine in Newcastle in the Institute of Translational and Clinical Research.
Paul is the recipient of numerous awards including the British Thoracic Society’s (BTS) highest award the BTS Medal, the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute’s (PVRI) and European Respiratory Society’s (ERS) lifetime achievement awards and the Fellowship award of the ERS.
Paul said of this latest accolade,
‘I am both humbled and honoured to receive this award which recognises my contributions via teaching, translational research and clinical practice in advancing lung transplantation from an experimental procedure to an established clinical reality.
‘Of course, there is no field of medicine that relies so much on a team effort for success as organ transplantation and I readily acknowledge the many wonderful colleagues who worked with me in achieve clinical successes and contributing to the recognition I have received on behalf of us all.’
