Members recognised in Queen’s Birthday honours
Green Templeton congratulates three college members on their recognition in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours for major contributions across varied fields.
Professor Martin Landray
Senior Research Fellow Professor Martin Landray has become Knight Bachelor for services to Science and Public Health. He is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Deputy Director of the Big Data Institute at Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford.
Martin has been at the forefront of the search for COVID-19 treatments in his role as Chief Investigator of the RECOVERY Trial, the world’s largest randomised controlled trial of COVID-19 treatments in the world. He spoke with BBC Radio 4 about the trial in March 2021 to mark one year since its launch. At that point it was estimated to have already saved the lives of one million people worldwide.
Kathryn Bishop
Associate Fellow Kathryn Bishop was awarded a CBE for Services to Diversity and Public Administration. She is an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School where she directs the online and residential programmes for women leaders, and teaches on a range of other programmes. She is particularly interested in women’s development and her new book on this is Make Your Own Map: Career Success Strategy for Women (Kogan Page, 2021). After serving as a Civil Service Commissioner regulating all appointments into the Civil Service, she is now the first Chairman of Britain’s newest tax authority, the Welsh Revenue Authority.
Kathryn’s professional roles include executive teaching, and work in and with organisations to get things done. She believes that if you can find the right job for you at the right time in your life, in the right organisation where you can offer the right skills, you can make a real difference in the world – and works with both men and women to that end.
Lorraine Wright
Alumna Lorraine Wright (Executive MBA, 2016) was awarded an MBE for Services to Young People through Music. She is known for her contribution to the UK and Ghana Gospel Music scene, as well as to the corporate and world of business both in the UK and Ghana.
British-born Ghanaian, Lorraine established University Gospel Choir of the Year, often referred to as UGCY, as a platform for university gospel choirs to exhibit their talents. Lorraine currently works as a Director at a Global Financial Services firm in the UK and is participating in an Oxford Foundry Elevate Accelerator Program with her music start up Vocsta.
Chris Townsend
Associate Fellow Chris Townsend was awarded a CBE for the role he played as CEO of the Shielding Programme, which was responsible for the 2.25 million Clinically Extremely Vulnerable patients in England during the first phase of COVID-19.
Chris is Senior Partner and Head of Infrastructure, Government and Health (IGH) at KPMG, one of the leading consultancies in the UK and globally in the Health sector.
