Professor Stephanie Dakin receives Excellent Teacher Award
Research Fellow Professor Stephanie Dakin has received an Excellent Teacher Award from the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.
These awards formally recognise the excellent contributions to teaching and/or supervision made by members of the Collegiate University and NHS staff within the Medical Sciences Division, as part of the Division’s Teaching Excellence Awards scheme.
Stephanie was honoured for her excellent contribution to the running of the MSc in Musculoskeletal Sciences and her leadership in making the course such a success.
She is Associate Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences, a Versus Arthritis Career Development Fellow and Chair of Directors of the Taught MSc in Musculoskeletal Sciences.
In addition, Stephanie is also a veterinary surgeon and spent her early career as an equine vet with a particular interest in musculoskeletal injuries in horses
Her research focuses on identifying the mechanisms driving chronic inflammation and fibrosis in human musculoskeletal disease and aims to discover novel therapeutic strategies to promote resolution of inflammation in chronically inflamed soft tissues, with a particular focus on tendinopathy and frozen shoulder.
She discussed her research in an Alumni Lecture given in Hilary 2021 entitled ‘Understanding inflammation in joint disease: from horses to humans’.
Stephanie’s award will be bestowed in person during a ceremony next year.
Last week, the college welcomed guests for a special afternoon marking the launch of the Pirie Society.
The event celebrated the college’s new legacy society and recognised those who are considering, or have chosen, to leave a gift in their will to the college.
Their generosity will help shape the future of the college for generations to come.
