Welcome to the new academic year at Green Templeton!
A warm welcome to all new and returning Green Templeton students, including those who are resident in Oxford for the first time!
As the new term begins, it’s been wonderful seeing so many people around our beautiful college grounds once again, and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more of you to Oxford in the coming weeks.

College is open and we’re committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible this academic year.
However, COVID-19 is still circulating within the general population in Oxford so we encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with our coronavirus pages which detail what to do if you have symptoms, how to book a test, and how to report a test result.
We also encourage you to continue wearing a face covering in all indoor communal areas (unless exempt or eating/drinking) and to respect the space of others by keeping a reasonable distance whenever practicable.
We’re really looking forward to this academic year and hope you are too!
Things to do at Green Templeton
We’ve got plenty of sports clubs, groups and societies here at Green Templeton and new members are always welcome! We’ve listed a few of them on this page but head over to our College Life section for full details on what’s on offer.
Allotment Club
Make friends and enjoy the great Oxford outdoors by getting involved with our Allotment Club! The club meets throughout the year to cultivate an allotment plot in Old Marston to grow vegetables, encourage wildlife and pollinators, and provide exercise. Contact allotment@gtc.ox.ac.uk to find out more!

Boat Club
Are you a keen rower or just keen to try rowing out? The Green Templeton Boat Club is looking for new members. No previous experience is required but you must be able to swim! Please contact row@gtc.ox.ac.uk if you’re interested in joining.

Music
We’ve got lots of options for music lovers including the Green Templeton College Big Band and the Oxford African Choir. There’s also a termly cabaret-style night called GTC Performs! which brings together musicians and performers for an evening of entertainment. We also have a dedicated music practice space called the Rotunda, a Musician-in-Residence and much more. Find out more about music at Green Templeton.

Oxford Global Health and Care Systems Society
The OGHCS society is a diverse, interdisciplinary group of students who share an interest in global health issues, with a particular focus on health systems strengthening and recovery. It’s open to all University of Oxford students but is administered and facilitated through Green Templeton.
Richard Doll Society
The medical society of Green Templeton is run for and by the clinical students with others often welcome too, putting on a broad range of events throughout the year including talks, dinners and an annual conference. Its primary purpose is building a strong community among college medics and offering further training opportunities through workshops and seminars.
We also offer:
- On-site gym
- Tennis courts
- Squash court
- Running Club
- Book Club
- Wine Society
- Medical Anthropology Film and Discussion Group
- Social Sciences Seminar Group
- And more!

And don’t forget the University of Oxford also has a whole range of clubs, societies and groups to get involved in. If you don’t see your particular interest represented at college why not start a new club? We have a small amount of funding available to assist with new ventures so please do get in touch if you think college would benefit from an activity we don’t currently run.
Get involved!
We’re proud to be an inclusive, warm and family-friendly college, and we want to get to know all of our students.

If you haven’t already, head over to our Student Profiles page to meet your fellow students and find out more about their background and research interests. You can also upload your own Student Profile to introduce yourself to college.

Make sure you’re following our social media accounts – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – for the latest information about our college community. And please do tag us in any photographs you take or achievements you write about!

We hold lots of brilliant events throughout the year here at Green Templeton. Our Events page has the latest information on what’s coming up and how to register, and keep an eye on your inboxes for invites to student events run by our Graduate Common Room (GCR). Alumni in Switzerland came together in Geneva on Swiss National Day for the first in-person gathering of our college`s Switzerland Alumni Group.
After the group’s inaugural online meeting earlier in the year, the gathering was a chance to finally put faces to names, reconnect over memories of Green Templeton and Oxford and hear where life has taken everyone since.
Conversation ranged from career paths and professional exchanges to life in Switzerland and ideas for the growing alumni group.
Josephine Agyeman-Duah (DPhil Women’s and Reproductive Health, 2018), Chair of the Alumni Group, said:
‘It was splendid to reconnect with GTC alumni from different periods and to celebrate Swiss National Day together in Geneva. Our first in-person gathering was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connections and our GTC alumni community in Switzerland.’
The group is now looking to establish a committee and hopes to connect with other Oxford and Cambridge alumni groups in Switzerland.

Happy International Cat Day! 🐾
It’s been quite the year for Vincent!
After several years of making the college his home, we are delighted to say that we have officially adopted him. A familiar and much-loved face around the college grounds, he has a special way of bringing smiles to everyone he meets.
We’re so proud to officially call him ours!
Happy International Cat Day, Vincent! 💚🐈⬛
✨ Come behind the scaffolding with us.
We were given rare access to the Radcliffe Observatory restoration project, climbing onto the roof to see the incredible conservation work taking place behind the scenes.
From spectacular views across Oxford to the Observatory`s intricate zodiac carvings, we discovered details that are normally hidden from view.
Join us as we explore one of Oxford`s most iconic landmarks!
Earlier this summer, we were delighted to welcome audiences to our inaugural Garden Play, with a series of sold-out performances of Shakespeare`s `As You Like It` set in our beautiful college grounds.
Our gardens became the Forest of Arden as students, staff, alumni and the wider Oxford community came together to enjoy open-air theatre in a truly unique setting. Even better, the production has received fantastic reviews from Oxford`s student press.
A huge thank you to everyone who performed in and supported this wonderful initiative.
These peaceful moments around college were captured by work experience student Izzie.
They celebrate the beauty of the college gardens and the simple joy of taking a closer look!
Thank you Izzie for sharing your perspective with us 🌸
